It’s in this magical city that everything began. We arrived here unsure of what to expect. It’s been anything but predictable.

How do we find happiness in a city like Madrid? Just look around. You’ll see smiling faces and outgoing personalities. The Spanish say that they are street people. This is really true. At any time in any weather you will always find people strolling down plazas and side streets, laughing and having fun. It seems to us that what brings them together is the love of food, fun and tradition. In the few days we spent here we got to take part in various important traditions : The New year’s Eve rehearsal, the San Sylvestre 10km race and the actual New Year’s Eve. These traditions are an important part of these people’s lives. It is an occasion to reunite families and friends and enjoy each other’s company to the full. We have learnt that their happiness lies in sharing moments with others and the events of traditions upheld that bring them together.
